Research Associate/Sr. Research Associate - RNA editing therapeutic discovery, high-throughput screening

The Company

At Tacit Therapeutics, we’re inspired by the intricacies of gene expression and repurpose enzymes already present in human cells to edit RNA. The result is the most flexible and potentially safest way to treat genetic disease. More details regarding our science and technology can be found at https://tacittx.com/

If you’re thrilled by the prospect of combining new technology and RNA biology to build treatments for devastating illnesses, consider this position. Working at an early-stage company, you’ll have the opportunity to make foundational contributions to human therapeutics. Our success as an organization is synonymous with your advancement––let’s get building!

Our team is composed of scientists and entrepreneurs whose experience includes building therapeutic technology platforms, running clinical trials, and raising tens of millions of dollars in venture capital funding. We are building multiple therapeutic programs by combining principles in synthetic biology and RNA biology while utilizing automation, pooled and arrayed screening, and a variety of cellular and in vivo models of human disease.

The Role

Research Associate/Sr. Research Associate - RNA editing therapeutic discovery, molecular biology, and high-throughput screening. As a member of our small and growing team, you will make foundational contributions to developing new treatments for devastating diseases. Your main contributions will be to:

  • use recombinant DNA techniques such as Golden Gate and Gibson assembly to create individual DNA constructs and plasmid libraries that express potential therapeutics
  • build and maintain engineered human cell lines
  • compare the activity of potential gene therapies in tissue culture utilizing automated methods
  • conduct RNA extractions, quantitative PCR, and digital PCR in high-throughput arrayed formats
  • utilize automation to refine and scale high-throughput screening workflows in arrayed plate-based formats (24-/96-/384-well)
  • co-develop and refine additional molecular biology methods to support continuous expansion of discovery capabilities
  • Assist with next-generation sequencing library preparation

Your efforts will directly inform filings with the FDA in pursuit of clinical development of new human therapeutics.

How You Will Contribute

In this role, you will execute established assays and contribute to development of new methods towards the development of treatments for inherited illnesses of the eye, brain and liver. You will be responsible for optimizing and executing assays as well as designing experiments in collaboration with scientists. This is a highly collaborative position in which you will generate data, create reagents, and build assays that will be used across the organization. While specific skills and relevant background are highly valued, the most essential skills on our team are a willingness to learn, openness to new approaches/ways of thinking, and humility in the face of tough problems.

Requirements

  • Enjoy working in a tight-knit and focused team
  • Work effectively in a fast-paced environment where new hypotheses and tools are rapidly integrated into our workflows
  • Ability to execute multiple experiments in parallel
  • Intellectually flexible and eager to learn
  • Thoughtful & detail-oriented
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and team-oriented mindset

Basic qualifications

  • BS or MS in biology, biochemistry, biomedical engineering, or a related field
  • 2+ years in molecular biology
  • 3+ years hands-on wet lab experience

Preferred qualifications

  • 5+ years hands-on wet lab experience in molecular biology
  • 2+ years experience with molecular cloning
  • 2+ years experience in human tissue culture
