Company Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled computational biologist to join our VC-backed startup working on the development of next-generation gene and cell therapies. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the foundational science and company culture of an exciting new company in the nucleic acid therapy space.

Our technology uniquely limits mRNA expression to specific cell subtypes or substates. With our novel programmable control elements we unlock new ways of treating diseases by targeting cells as a whole, rather than individual proteins. In this job, you will have the unique opportunity to build out a bioinformatics function and help bring the promise of mRNA therapeutics beyond vaccines to life. The bioinformatics functions encompasses several areas of biology, touching on high-throughput pooled screens, public dataset analyses, RNA structure and sequence design, and building software tooling.

Exact level for the candidate will be determined by level of experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deploy computational tools for discovery and modeling of novel RNA structural elements

  • Marry experimental data with computational predictions to begin to build out novel predictive algorithms for supervised and unsupervised learning

  • Develop and implement pipelines for processing and analyzing custom sets of NGS data, including alignment, barcoding, and SNP analysis/quantification. Create visualization tools and define statistical metrics for confidence.

  • Develop and implement pipelines for processing and analyzing publicly available genomic datasets (e.g. RNA-seq, scRNA-seq), and perform analyses relevant to bespoke biological questions

  • Bring in SHAPE-seq/CLIP-seq, SHAPE-MaP and other data to inform RNA design

  • Develop tools for bench scientists to maximize their efficiency within the design-test-build cycle, including vector design, annotation/documentation, and analysis/interpretation.

  • Collaborate closely with experimental teams to integrate bioinformatics analyses into experimental plans and interpret results effectively.

  • Communicate effectively with diverse team, independently manage and prioritize concurrent complex projects.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (Ph.D. preferred) in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or related field.

  • Proficiency in RNA structure prediction algorithms and software tools.

  • Extensive experience in developing reproducible and reusable bioinformatics pipelines using workflow management systems and analysis algorithms for processing NGS data.

  • Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, with experience in developing visualization tools.

  • Familiarity with AI/ML techniques and their application to biological data analysis.

  • Following relevant best practices in software development, including version control, documentation, unit tests where relevant, environment management.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
