About the Position

Overview:

Montara Therapeutics is seeking an experienced Chief Business Officer (CBO) to lead the development and implementation of the company’s business strategy, driving growth and achieving long-term objectives in the biotech sector. The CBO will play a critical role in identifying, negotiating, and managing strategic partnerships, collaborations, and licensing agreements. Additionally, the CBO will support fundraising efforts and oversee financial planning, budgeting, and resource allocation. Collaborating closely with the executive team, the CBO will ensure alignment between business and scientific strategies while representing the company in meetings with potential partners, investors, and stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will have an advanced degree in business or a related field, with a scientific degree being highly desirable. With a minimum of 15 years of experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry, the candidate must have at least seven years of business development and licensing experience, along with a proven track record of creating and managing impactful deals. Extensive experience in corporate strategy and the therapeutic drug discovery process is essential. The CBO must be prepared to travel up to 30% of the time and possess strong leadership skills, with at least five years of direct managerial responsibility in business development or similar teams.

Experience Requirements:

  • Develop and implement the company’s business strategy to drive growth and achieve long-term goals.

  • Identify, negotiate, and manage strategic partnerships, collaborations, and licensing agreements.

  • Support fundraising efforts, including venture capital, private equity, and strategic investors.

  • Oversee financial planning and analysis, budgeting, and resource allocation.

  • Work closely with the executive team to align business and scientific strategies.

  • Represent the company in meetings with potential partners, investors, and stakeholders.

  • Monitor industry trends and competitive landscape to identify new opportunities and risks.

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and corporate governance.

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in business (MBA) or related field; a scientific degree (Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent) is highly desirable.

  • 15 years of experience in the pharmaceutical and/or biotech industry

  • Minimum of 7 years of business development and licensing experience with a proven track record of creating and managing impactful deals, preferably for both the sell and buy sides

  • Minimum of 5 years of direct managerial responsibility leading business development or similar teams

  • Minimum of 5 years of corporate strategy experience in the pharmaceutical and/or biotech sector

  • Extensive experience and background in the discovery and development of first-in-class therapeutics and exceptional understanding of the therapeutic drug discovery process from research through commercialization

  • Ability to travel 30% of the time

Salary & Benefits

Salary:

  • The total expected base salary for this role is $280,000-$360,000 based on education and experience

    • Annual bonus opportunities - up to 10% of annual salary
