We are seeking an intensely passionate Scientist to become one of the founding members of our Process Development and Improvement team.

As a part of our team, this member has an important role in characterizing, developing, and optimizing manufacturing processes for scalable production of complex synthetic DNA using our revolutionary gene synthesis technology.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design experiments, perform tests, and analyze large data sets to optimize production processes for improving product performance (efficiency, throughput, cost, and quality)
  • Perform as Subject Matter Expert to support manufacturing
  • Collaborate with teams in product and process transfer for commercial scale manufacturing
  • Conduct sustaining works for routine manufacturing
  • Initiate appropriate change requests and lead change implementations
  • Create QC methods and procedures
  • Innovate production improvement activities
  • Troubleshoot process and method
  • Take part in corrective and preventive actions
  • Provide on-job-training
  • Support working out technical solutions for continuous increasing customer satisfactions
  • Authorize technical documents (work instruction, SOP, batch record, training and review slide, transfer plan, etc.)
  • Maintain compliance with good documentation practices

Essential Candidate Profile:

  • BS, or MS with 5+ years in molecular biology, or a PhD in molecular biology, biomedical engineering, chemical engineering field, with 3+ years of hands-on molecular biology experience in assay, product, and/or process development
  • Hands-on high-throughput automation instrument(s) or work cell system with batch process software (such as Laboratory Information Management System, LIMS)
  • Experience with nucleic acid purification, quantification and qualification, molecular cloning, PCR, and NGS sequencing
  • Experience in developing, executing, analyzing, and documenting robust multivariate experiments (such as DOE by JMP)
  • Experience with implementing and troubleshooting processes on liquid handlers and other automated equipment
  • Team player with experience of cross-functional collaborations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Candidate Qualifications:

  • Experience to support new products initiatives (NPI), continuous process improvements or production sustaining in a biotechnology company
  • Experience in applying process improvement methods
  • Proficient skills in statistical data analysis
  • Knowledge of synthetic biology techniques and synthetic biology applications

Salary and Benefits:

The annual base salary compensation for this role, if based in California is: $110,000 - $125,000, dependent on experience. Compensation may be different in other locations. Final compensation also includes bonus, equity and benefits. Specific offer packages are determined by multiple factors, including candidate skill, experience, expertise, and location.
